WHAT IS BILTONG?

There's a precise art to crafting the perfect biltong – from selecting the right cuts to mastering the drying process. Respect for the ingredients is paramount and only the finest will do. Authentic biltong is made solely from meat, vinegar and spices. Therefore, every element must be impeccable to achieve the perfect result.

Nutritionally speaking, it doesn’t get better than biltong. As well as being a phenomenal source of protein (over 57%, all highly digestible), it is also rich in iron, vitamin B12, zinc and creatine.

Plus, biltong is naturally low in carbs, has no sugar and is completely gluten-free, making it a great choice for those following paleo, keto, or carnivore diets.

Where does biltong come from?

Biltong has been around for over 400 years, dating back to the days when South African hunters and explorers needed a way to preserve meat for their long journeys. They discovered that hanging meat to dry in the air was a really great method to make a tasty and durable snack.

Why is biltong popular?

Biltong’s popularity has soared due to its combination of delicious taste and nutritional benefits. With its high protein content and low carbohydrates, it’s a satisfying and healthy snack choice for those leading active lifestyles or following specific diets. And for those simply seeking a flavorful treat, biltong pairs perfectly with a cold beer or a glass of red wine.

A convenient and portable snack, biltong is the perfect anytime treat.

How is biltong made?

Biltong is crafted from the finest quality meat. At Beef OC, we exclusively use prime cuts of grass-fed beef. The meat is carefully sliced into strips and marinated in a flavorful blend of vinegar and spices.

Once marinated, the meat is hung to air dry in a controlled environment.

Biltong is a versatile snack that offers a variety of flavors to suit different tastes. In addition to our traditional Original Biltong and Dry Wors, we also offer a more adventurous option for those that like a bit of heat, in our Peri Peri Chilli Biltong.
